It took me a while to truly start to see myself like this and the only reason I began the journey to really deep self worth and self love is because the effects of not seeing myself as beautiful or worthy where causing HAVOC in my life. My personal journey began with someone who could comfortably neglect her basic body needs for the purpose of achieving any goal. This didn’t get me too far and before the age of 25 I was hospitalised with severe exhaustion after months of repeatedly fainting. I was so disconnected and numb to my basic body needs to even begin to think about my emotional needs.

I rarely felt truly sexy. Truly beautiful. Which is no a suprise with the modern beauty standards.

Looking back I would feel shame around how much I was able to neglect myself but I believe I was an extreme example of what happens to a lot of people who detach themselves from their bodies in order to survive in a world that tells us it’s not safe to be connected to our bodies.

• It’s not safe to feel hunger because I need to be a certain size.

• It’s not safe to feel sensual because my expressions are sinful and slutty.

• It’s not safe to express emotions because I will be seen as erratic or crazy.

  
  

Ultimately if these needs are suppressed over a period of years and years we can very easily wake up feeling completely numb. The amazing thing is the same body that may currently feel numb, unworthy, just a bit meh. Also knows exactly how to unwind and take you to your deepest sense of worth.
